In Chapter 3 you will learn about some of the equipment used when working in the field along with some tips on how to serve in an efficient and safe manner. Pitfalls will be covered as they relate to animals, people, and the law.
You will be introduced to the important subject of diligence. No process server can serve 100% of the assignments they receive. Since many documents can be served by alternative means the law requires due diligence on the part of the process server before those alternative means can be used.
Finally, you’ll receive your first look at what makes up a proof of service and learn why each aspect of it is important.
In this chapter you will learn about:
- Proper behavior while serving
- Trespass as it relates to process servers
- Proofs of service
- Using impersonation and pretexting while serving
- The dangers of impersonating a police officer
- Tips and tools
- Diligence

This is a rough diagram of a typical courtroom in the state of Washington. Courtrooms vary a great deal from city to city and county to county but they all have the same basic structure.
