PS 102 – Chapter 9 – An Introduction to Time Computation Case Law

Although time computation is vital in many areas of law there are surprisingly few appellate cases which involve this topic. Here are some examples of important time periods:

  • Statutes of limitation as in
    1. Injury accidents
    2. Criminal matters
    3. Collections
  • Foreclosures
  • Landlord Tenant
  • Judgment enforcement

For professional process servers time computation should be second nature. Deadlines abound in our work.

Here are a few questions to ask about time:

  • What is the first day of a time period?
  • What is the last day of a time period?
  • Are partial days counted?
  • Do weekends get counted?
  • Do holidays get counted?
  • What about Federal holidays vs state holidays?
  • What can give you more time?

Answers to these questions and more can be found in the Process Serving 101 course and here in Process Serving 102 Case Law.
